Dewey’s Pizza: great.
Dewey’s had been recommended by several friends. Tonight, I had a pie with red sauce, half topped with pepperoni and smoked cheddar and the other half with sausage and oregano. The sauce is smooth; and the crust is moist. Pepperoni and cheddar go together well, and the sausage is excellent, but I’m not a fan of oregano on pizza. Overall, a great pizza; I plan to go back soon.(via a Facebook friend)
Deep dish pepperoni from Black Thorn Pub: only OK.
I was at Black Thorn last night to celebrate the end of the Lethal Mutants’ softball season. We had lots of fun this summer, even though we were 3-10 and did not make the playoffs.
I had heard many great things about Black Thorn pizza, but the pizza did not live up to that praise. In total I had deep dish pepperoni, deep dish cheese and regular, near-New York style, pepperoni. Both of the deep dish pizzas were loaded with cheese, a disproportionate amount of cheese. The cheese masked the pepperoni, sauce and crust. The regular crust was better. Without the excess of cheese, the spicy sauce was more noticeable, and spicier than I prefer. Black Thorn is not something I would like to eat more than on a rare occasion.

St. Louis Pizza Haus: excellent! The crust in thin while not cracker-crispy; it falls in between New York and St. Louis styles. I had a pie with pepperoni and sausage. It was more salty than most places, with the average amount of grease. I highly recommend this to all.
